"Deeply Hurtful Experience – Discrimination After a Spiritual Journey" After traveling for nearly 48 hours for a Jyotirling Darshan, my brother and I were physically drained and spiritually fulfilled. We just wanted a peaceful place to sit, eat, and rest for a bit. That's when we came across Hotel Shalimar Pure Veg, expecting basic hospitality and warmth—what we got instead was humiliation. We politely asked the staff if we could sit in the family dining section, thinking it would be quieter and more comfortable after our long journey. But to our shock, the owner suddenly started shouting at us in Marathi—loud, aggressive, and completely unprovoked. Before we could even explain ourselves, he looked at us with clear disdain and told us to "get out." We were stunned. We hadn’t done anything wrong. It was obvious from his tone and behavior that we were being mistreated just because we weren’t Marathi-speaking locals. In a country that prides itself on "Atithi Devo Bhava" (Guests are God), this was heartbreaking. After visiting a holy site, we expected a little kindness and respect—but instead, we were treated like outsiders. This was not just bad service. It was a moment of regional discrimination, and it made us feel small and unwelcome. If you’re a traveler or non-local, I urge you to stay away from this place. Basic decency is the bare minimum one should expect—sadly, Hotel Shalimar Pure Veg fails Reply of your comments Thank you so much for your kind words — especially without knowing the actual facts. It’s always easier to blame others when you can’t accept your own behavior, isn’t it? You came in intoxicated, insisted on sitting in a family room full of ladies and families, ignored polite requests, and still have the confidence to play the victim? Truly inspiring. And now suddenly the issue is about how it “smells” outside? Interesting how priorities change when you're told “no.” But hey, let’s imagine a situation — you travel non-stop for 48 hours, maybe skip a shower or two, arrive tired, maybe even tipsy, and still expect red carpet treatment? Bravo. Let’s also hope others judge you just as generously based on how you “look.” We maintain standards here — for everyone. Not based on appearance, background, or boldness. We only ask for basic respect, which clearly was missing this time. But sure — let’s keep pretending the problem was the seat, not the behavior. Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

These people are saying that they are going to visit the Jyotirlinga and they were drunk when they came here. They came drunk and wanted to sit in the family room. Inside, there were family customers, ladies, everyone was sitting and they were insisting that we sit there. I'm explaining to them how we can accommodate gentlemen in the family room, that there are family customers inside, don't sit. They were not listening. How many times have I told them to sit outside? There is plenty of space. Everything is in order. But they said no. We smell here. And this is happening. So what should we do?
