I recently ordered several items from Sagar Gaire, including the Butter Paneer Masala, Dal Makhni, the normal thali, and the special thali. Unfortunately, none of them lived up to my expectations. First, the Butter Paneer Masala was a major letdown. It was far too sweet, almost like a dessert rather than a savory curry. The overwhelming sweetness masked any hint of spices or richness that you’d normally expect in this dish. The balance of flavors was completely off, and it left me wanting more of the traditional masala taste, which was nowhere to be found. The Dal Makhni wasn’t any better. It lacked the creamy, buttery, and smoky flavors that usually define a good Dal Makhni. Instead, it tasted quite bland, with very little seasoning or depth. It was just a basic lentil curry without any of the richness that makes this dish so enjoyable. Now, coming to the normal thali and special thali, these were equally underwhelming. The normal thali had very basic items, but none of them stood out in terms of flavor. The sabzis (vegetable dishes) were average at best, and the dal was, again, quite bland. Nothing felt fresh or flavorful. The portion sizes were decent, but the quality of the food just didn’t match up. The special thali, which I had hoped would be better, was not much of an improvement. While it came with more items and looked promising, the taste didn’t deliver. The paneer dish was overly sweet (like the Butter Paneer Masala), and the other curries lacked complexity. Even the desserts were overly sugary without much balance. Overall, the meal was disappointing. The flavors in all the dishes were either too sweet, too bland, or just not what I expected from a place like Sagar Gaire. I hope they can work on improving the quality and balance of their dishes to bring back some authentic flavors. Service: Dine in
