Come here for a drink after a long walk around Wankhar Entomology Museum. Degust good beef this restaurant offers. The staff is said to be terrific here. Beef Biryani (Half) - Rs.80 Beef Chaap (Half) - Rs.100 Tandoori Roti - Rs.20 Royal Restaurant, Police Bazaar, Shillong Muslim Food $$ 06.10.24 Today after 5 days of not eating out, I decided to go & try out a place I've never tried before. Also I've decided that Sundays will be my fasting day upto sunset. So yesterday after my 8pm dinner I didn't eat a thing till now, 5pm. So 21 hrs of fasting. I hope all this effort will mean something. I went up to Thana road & was a little confused as there were quite a few options to choose from. I decided on Muslim Food. So right next to the Police Bazaar Jama Masjid is a building which houses the Police Bazaar Muslim Hotel on the ground floor & Royal Restaurant on the 1st floor. I decided on the latter. I entered inside & it was almost empty as it neither was lunch nor dinner time. The waiter gave me the menu & I was glad to see half portions, but they didn't have Nehari, Khurmi & Firni. I ordered a half plate of beef biryani, a half plate of Beef Chaap & since they had a tandoor oven, I went with a tandoori roti as well. This was my first time trying out Chaap. I've seen it for years on menus but never ordered once. This time perhaps because it's beef. The order came in 5mins. The chaap had a bony piece of meat along with thin slices of beef immersed in a thick rich gravy. I tore a piece of roti & wow, I was very impressed. The meat & the gravy were so delectable. Next was the biryani, it had good quality basmati rice with a big piece of tender beef. It had very less spices, no egg, potato or raita. It was decent with the chaap gravy. The place looked clean enough. The waiters were helpful, but the manager seemed a bit proud. Anyway it was a very good meal to break my fast.
