Prema Mess is undoubtedly one of the iconic places in Tuticorin, known not just for its food but for the legacy it holds in the hearts of local food lovers. Situated in the heart of the city, this mess-style eatery has earned a reputation over the years for serving authentic and traditional non-vegetarian meals. Netherless, it stands as one of the most important culinary destinations in Tuticorin, especially for those craving a home-style meal with a rich local flavor. I visited Prema Mess for lunch and was intrigued by its simplicity. They serve only one main course – rice – but pair it with an array of non-vegetarian sides including chicken, mutton, and various seafood items. Among the dishes I tried, the nethili fry stood out – 6 pieces for ₹200, and it was bursting with flavor, crispy yet tender. The prawn gravy that followed was also impressive, rich in spices and full of taste. The ambiance is not luxurious, and the place is quite small with limited seating, which leads to a lot of rush during peak hours. They only allow a certain number of people inside at a time, so be prepared to wait. Though not overly expensive, the pricing is slightly on the higher side considering the quantity, but the quality makes up for it. I was staying near the railway station and it took me about 10–15 minutes by auto to reach. The hotel is very old and carries a traditional vibe, making it worth visiting at least once. If you're in Tuticorin and want a taste of authentic local non-veg food, Prema Mess is a one-time must-try. Food: 4 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3 Price per person: ₹400–600
