This place is one of those hidden gems in Pune that one doesn't really find out about unless a friend introduces it.  Poonam was apparently a really popular restaurant in its heyday, and it's become eclipsed for whatever reason, though I imagine it's partly because it has a back-street entrance off J.M. Road, one of the toughest places to drive to and find a spot around in this city, especially given that it's a major one-way thoroughfare.  Poonam is a no-frills place with a straightforward approach to food and alcohol.  The food is not fancy—just the average Indian fare of rotis, curries (veg and non-veg), rice, etc.—but it *is* done quite well.  The drinks are also, likewise, not fancy; this is not a pub, but a place where guys go to have a scotch and soda or Kingfisher with their dinner.  The service is good and the prices are ridiculously reasonable.  The only downside is that it doesn't attract the most prestigious clientèle (obviously) and the dearth of parking spaces.  Go here, if you've got the guts.  I guarantee that you'll like it.
