Girish Chandra Dey and Nakur Chandra Nandi is not just a sweets shop; it is a living piece of Kolkata’s culinary heritage. During my visit, I could instantly feel the old-world charm that sets this place apart from modern sweet chains. The shop has a simple, no-frills setup, but that simplicity adds to its authenticity. You don’t come here for fancy interiors—you come for tradition, purity, and taste that has remained unchanged for generations. The sweets are the real stars here. Their sandesh, especially the nolen gurer sandesh and karapak sandesh, is absolutely outstanding. Each bite feels rich yet balanced, with the natural flavor of chhena taking center stage. I also loved the subtle sweetness, which never overpowers the texture or aroma. It’s clear that quality ingredients and age-old recipes are followed with great care. What impressed me most is the consistency. Even after so many years, the taste remains authentic and reliable. The staff may not be overly talkative, but service is quick and efficient. Overall, Girish Chandra Dey and Nakur Chandra Nandi is a must-visit for anyone who wants to experience true Bengali sweets in their purest form.

Established in 1844, Legacy of Bengali Sweets! Girish Ch. Dey & Nakur Ch. Nandy is a living legend in the heart of North Kolkata. This is not just one of the oldest sweet shops in Kolkata it also one of it's most iconic. The moment you step in, you're greeted not just by the aroma of fresh sweets, but by over 175 years of unmatched tradition and excellence. They have traditional as well fusion sweets. They have strawberry, blueberry, mango, chocolate, kiwi, green apple, orange to name a few modern fusions. From traditional sweets one can have Malai Roll, Sorer Singara, Mohini, Jolbhora. Their Butterscotch Sandesh is a genius twist on a classic-creamy, subtle, and unforgettable. The Malai Roll is rich, indulgent, and melts in the mouth, while the legendary Jol Bhora still amazes with its burst of liquid sweetness inside. The Kacha Golla, soft and delicate, is a testament to how simplicity can be divine. And don't miss the unique Ice Cream Sandesh-a delightful fusion that wins over every generation. In winter they have some special sweets which I love like Gurer Sandesh, Gurer Makha Sandesh, Gurer Kachagolla, Janai style Gurer Monohora. Nolen Gur in different size containers are also sold. But what makes this shop stand apart is not just the sweets, but also its history. Nakur Chandra Nandi, who came from Hooghly district, married into the family of Girish Chandra Dey, a renowned sweet maker of his time. Together, they began making and selling sweets under the name Girish Chandra Dey & Nakur Chandra Nandy, which has since become legendary in Kolkata's food culture. Service is quick and courteous despite the crowd -testimony to the staff's dedication and efficiency. Must-visit for anyone who wants to experience the true taste of Bengal. Thank you Girish Ch. Dey & Nakur Ch. Nandy.
