I have been writing reviews on Google Maps for all kinds of restaurants for a very long time and I do not like to say bad things about food. Food and its makers deserve our gratitude and respect. But restaurants operate in a marketplace where consumers have quality standards, and so in this case I may have to make an exception. Rubbish is the first word that comes to mind after tasting the food I ordered from Mughal Mahal. I ordered a cream of tomato soup, a cream of mushroom soup and a chicken biryani (Murgh Hyderabadi dum biryani). The cream of mushroom soup was clearly prepared on Masterchef Gujarat; it was that sweet. It was as if mushrooms had been added to heated Milkmaid and served as a soup! I have never had a cream of mushroom soup so terrible! Tomato soups usually have the taste of tomato, some sourness. Even cream of tomato soups are supposed to have that taste of tomato. Not this one. This one was yet again a Masterchef Ahmedabad creation. Or let's say like a hot Roohafza served as a soup. It clearly had added food colouring in it, so it didn't just taste bad, it was unhealthy too. The chicken biryani wasn't anything to celebrate either. It was oily and spicy and had burnt pieces of chicken in it (see picture). Certainly nothing Hyderabadi about that! Maybe Sahara Desert Biryani would be a more appropriate name for it. Maybe the chef had an off day. I'm reminded of the movie Cheeni Kum in which the chef mistakes sugar for salt and the dish turns out sweet instead of savoury. I hope it was just one mistake on one unfortunate day. Because if this is the usual taste of the food, it deserves a 1.4 rating not a 4.1. I hope they can do better next time.
