After arriving at Trivandrum Railway Station from Kanyakumari around 3 PM, we were in need of a meal, and since it was getting late, we decided to have lunch at the IRCTC Vegetarian Refreshment Room. The meal was a typical Kerala-style platter that included rice, sambar, rasam, curd, papad, pickle, and two curries made with coconut. While the meal was filling and provided the basic elements of a traditional Kerala lunch, the taste and quality were rather average. The coconut-based curries lacked the richness and depth of flavor that one would expect from authentic Kerala cuisine, and the sambar and rasam were somewhat bland. Though the setting was convenient for travelers needing a quick bite, it was clear that the catering offered at this refreshment room could benefit from a significant improvement. IRCTC’s catering services, both at stations and on trains, are often inconsistent when it comes to food quality. Given the large number of travelers who depend on these facilities, more attention to freshness, regional authenticity, and variety in the food would make a big difference. With some improvements in catering quality, IRCTC could provide a much more satisfying dining experience for passengers and visitors alike. The display board outside is vegetarian, seeing the board I went inside and took a token for veg meals. But unfortunately, all non -veg items including chicken biriyani is served. The quality of food is very poor. During the Sabarimala pilgrimage season, Ayyappas may be wrongly led to the restaurant.i asked for the suggestion book, but the staff said they dont know anythig. IRCTC authorities have to take action against this and ask vendor to serve only veg food inside.
