Fish Thali - Rs.250/- Humari Restaurant, 8th Mile, Upper Shillong Indian, Chinese, Thalis $$ 11.05.24 Today is another Saturday morning that I'm dropping Meva to work. Two weeks ago when I had dropped her, I was able to cover Flames & Flavours as well as Mughal Family Kitchen. Both were good in their own way. That week I did notice Humari Restaurant with the Thali signboard near the road but it was too early for a Thali. This week I thought, what the heck. It started raining heavily as I entered the restaurant. I thought the place sounded Muslim but later on as I had a chat with the owner, I found out that Humari in the Lapalang War-Khasi dialect meant "Fond" or "Fondness". Infact I came to know that he is my friend, Queenie's younger brother. Anyway the place was spic & span as it had opened just a couple of months back. I had a look at the menu & I asked for the Fish Thali. 10:00am lunch? What the heck ! The food arrived. It had good quality rice, a nice big piece of Fish Curry, Dal, Aloo Soya chunks sabji, sauted mix veg, tasty small fried potato chips, a proper plate of salad, papad, Gulab jamun, Dahi & mint chutney. It sure was a decent & proper looking thali. The rice was good. The dal seasoned well. The fish curry was light & tasty. Didn't have too much masala. The veggies were all freshly prepared. And I ended my meal with the dahi & gulab jamun. I didn't ask for refills as it was already very filling. I sure was pretty "Humari' with everything. A good friend of mine would jokingly tease me saying that I only cover eateries without Instagram accounts. Well if I didn't, then how will I discover gems like these.
