We recently had a family event at Hotel Manorama. While the food taste was good, the way it was served turned the whole experience into a stressful one. Here are the key issues: 1.Untrained Staff -Serving Style Each table had a dedicated server who was not allowed to help other tables. This caused guests to wait unnecessarily even when nearby servers were free. -Servers carried food in half portions. Example: at a table of 8, only 4 haleems were brought first, and the rest came 5-10 minutes later. Starters & Main Course Delays Servers carried only one tray at a time even when they could easily carry two. Rumali roti and curry were served separately—guests got roti first, but waited 10 minutes for curry. Something as basic as plain white rice took nearly 30 minutes to arrive. Even after repeated requests to carry full trays and serve more efficiently, the servers continued making multiple unnecessary trips. 2.No Satellite station in the dining floor -There was no satellite station on the banquet floor, so every dish had to be fetched from downstairs, causing long delays; -Food items were not pre-plated or pre-portioned for faster service. -There were no backup supplies kept on the event floor, which caused repeated delays 3. Coordination & Supervision : Manager’s Behaviour -The so-called “supervisor” did not step in to correct servers, even when it was obvious guests were waiting. -Disappointingly, the banquet manager, Mahesh, argued with us in the midst of the celebration simply because I was instructing servers to respond to tables that had no food or water, instead of letting guests wait. Worst attitude ever and very unprofessional, I doubt if he is trained in event management. 4. Impact on Guests Tables were left waiting with only half-served food, which was awkward and uncomfortable. Cold food reached the tables because of multiple delays in fetching from downstairs. Some skipped dishes altogether because they were never served in time.. 5.At one stage, while guests were still having dinner, all the servers and even the supervisors were nowhere to be seen. Some tables had run out of food, others didn’t even have water, and we had no idea whom to ask for help. It was very frustrating and embarrassing. 6. Value for Money For the premium prices charged by Manorama, service quality did not match expectations. As customers, we paid not just for food but for smooth, worry-free execution—which was not delivered Final Takeaway Food quality: Good Service: Very Poor (slow, inefficient, untrained staff) Management: Unprofessional (argued instead of helping) Unless serious improvements are made in staff training and service flow, I would not recommend Hotel Manorama for important family events.
