"Last Saturday, we visited Apsara Hotel in Perumbavoor to try their highly recommended Mutton Biriyani, along with Mutton Chops and Chicken Perattu. Having heard a lot of praise, especially for the Biriyani, we were excited to give it a shot. The ambiance of the hotel was decent, and the staff was friendly. The Biriyani was good – well-cooked, with tender meat and balanced spices. However, as a Malabari and a native of Kannur, I must admit that my expectations were a bit higher. For my friends, who don't come from a similar culinary background, the experience was quite exciting, and they thoroughly enjoyed it. But for me, the Biriyani, while tasty, didn't stand out as exceptional. Having grown up savoring authentic Kannur Biriyani and even experiencing Shadab Biriyani in Hyderabad (on the way to Charminar), I found this one to be just okay. It lacked the depth of flavor and richness I’ve experienced in other iconic Biriyanis, like the one from Kayees in Fort Kochi or even the homemade Biriyani my mom prepares back home. That being said, I’m not implying the Biriyani was bad, just that it didn’t completely live up to the high expectations I had based on the hype. In the evening, we returned to try the famous Biriyani Chaya (Special Tea). Now, that was something unique and refreshing! The tea had a nice balance of flavors, and it was the perfect way to end the day. Overall, Apsara Hotel offers a good dining experience, but for someone like me who’s had the chance to taste some of the best Biriyanis around, it didn’t quite hit the mark in terms of exceeding the hype."
