If Glenary’s is the heritage soul of Darjeeling, Golden Tips Teattoria is its modern, chic cousin. Located right at the heart of the Chowrasta (The Mall), this place offers a completely different vibe—it’s less about colonial history and more about a premium, curated tea experience mixed with a stunning open-air view. The concept is in the name: "Teattoria" (Tea + Trattoria). It’s an Italian-styled cafe that happens to serve some of the finest teas in the world. The Experience The View: This is the main reason to come here. Try to grab a seat on the open-air sundeck/balcony at the back. On a clear day, you get an uninterrupted, panoramic view of the Kanchenjunga range and the rolling valleys below. It is arguably one of the best photo spots on Mall Road. The Interiors: Inside, it’s warm, wood-paneled, and smells divine. One wall is usually lined with hundreds of tea canisters (White, Oolong, First Flush, etc.), which makes for a great backdrop. What to Order The Tea (Obviously): Unlike other places where you just order "tea," here you select the specific estate and flush. I highly recommend the Second Flush Muscatel—it has that signature grape-like sweetness. If you are unsure, the staff will let you sniff the leaves before brewing. Hot Chocolate: Surprisingly, their Hot Chocolate is a dark horse winner. It is thick, creamy, and perfect for the chilly Darjeeling evenings. The Food: The menu is Italian-heavy. The Thin-Crust Pizzas are decent (a bit on the chewier side), and the Alfredo Pasta is comforting. However, the food plays a supporting role to the tea and the view. The Verdict Pros: Tea Tasting: You can buy loose-leaf tea to take home, and they are very patient in letting you sample aromas. Location: You can’t beat being right on the Chowrasta. Modern Comfort: Clean restrooms and comfortable seating, which can be a relief after a long walk. Cons: Price: It is definitely on the expensive side for Darjeeling standards. You are paying a "view tax." Service: Can be a bit laid back (slow) when the balcony is full. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: ₹600–800 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
