Assamese Small Fish Thali - Rs.160 Country Road Restaurant, 3 Mer, Upper Shillong Chinese & Indian $ 01.09.24 Yesterday I wanted to try out 2 more places but that bowl of Jjangmyeon from @luzia_kitchen filled me up good. So today I'm 1st here at Country Road Restaurant at 3 Mer. I have stopped by infront of this place countless times while picking up Meva or just passing through. This place must be atleast 2 decades old but this was my 1st time. It was lunch time & I thought today I'll have rice so I entered inside this little restaurant & was excited to find out that they had Thalis, infact even an Assamese small fish thali. Now I didn't need to see anything else so I immediately placed my order. The food took 10 mins to come & it did look good. It had rice, dal, a 6inch fish curry, mix veg, aloo bhaji, chutney, salad & papad. I started digging in & first thing I realized was that the rice was cold. The dal & fish curry was not, just the rice. I poured the dal on the rice & noticed it was just boiled & lightly fried, so I kept it aside & just drank it at the end of the meal. The fish curry though was delicious. The fish was fried first but didn't seem to be a stale piece. The mix veg was good with carrots potato & gourd. The aloo bhaji was slightly fried. The salad was basic. But the best item on the thali even better than the fish curry was the chutney. If only I knew what it was. Could be some local berry. I went up to the counter to pay & gently & politely informed the lady that the food was good but the rice was a bit cold & yes, there was no acknowledgement. Not even a 'Do come again' gesture. This is a good example of a decent place offering good food being somewhat let down by the indifferent attitude of the staff. Instagram ID - kari.on.eats.
