It was sheer chance that a friend recommended Cafe Diem to us while in Coonoor. And WHAT a lovely discovery it turned out to be! Tucked away in a quiet location overlooking the Bandi Sholai hills. We were warmly greeted by the staff and were, in anticipation of a rather nippy afternoon, very thoughtfully provided with beautiful warm shrugs to keep us warm. The well curated vegetarian menu had enough choices for all of us. We placed our orders with helpful suggestions from the well seasoned, polite, smiling and proactive serving staff. All the items were distinctly fresh, tasty and beautifully presented! And although we were in the heart of tea estates, the fresh coffee was amazing, roasted and blended to perfection! Cafe Diem's interesting n warm decor reflects a very personal touch and the omnipresent greenery blends with its strikingly beautiful natural outdoor. We were lucky to meet with the owner, Ms.Radhika Shastry. A strong headed, dynamic, warm and friendly lady. Cafe Diem reflects her warm leisurely charm in every way. So all in all, this tiny group of four well-seasoned elderly travellers highly recommend Cafe Diem to all who are not in a rush and looking for some calm solace and refreshing meal and some random conversations! Thank you Radhika, you are the best! And thank you Team Cafe Diem, we had a great time in your care!! You can be sure that we will return soon! Our group went for lunch at this cafe on a weekend which proved to be a very bad experience.
Pros- Ambience was bit different and innovative. There is a small valley view which gives a good scenic view. Piace is clean and hygienic.
Cons-
1. Hospitality- Poorest ever. The lady who owns the cafe is very rude. The moment we reached, instead of welcoming, she started enquiring about table booking. She had a problem with us taking photographs on one of vacant tables. We were accommodated inside area which was very cramped. When outside tables got vacated and we wanted to shift out for a better view, she totally refused stating that tables are reserved. Though for our surprise, no one turned up to occupy them for next 1 hour till we left. Overall it appeared that we are not welcomed at all.
2. Space- Space is very cramped. Don't go by the posted photographs. There are two location for dining, one is outside and other inside. While booking a table, they din't even ask which location we would prefer.
3. Food- Food was a total waste, be it quality or quantity. There is a very limited option available. Pizza base was burnt which had to be changed. New Pizza served was smaller in size. Lasagne was more or less a boiled eggplant vegetable. All sophisticated named beverages at very high cost were just fresh juices. All quantities were so small that were good enough only for my 4 year old son. We almost had to order same item twice to satisfy our hunger.
4. Price- All items are pretty expensive. Services, ambience, quality and quantity of food are not at all at par with the price charged.
5. Paking- very limited space for parking.
Overall, not advisable at all. You would regret visiting here.
