We had heard a lot about popularity of the place and had to experience it during our recent stay at Coonoor. Being the year end it was their set menu priced at Rs 1700/- plus taxes. Got a slot for 3pm which was fine considering we planned to do some sightseeing till afternoon anyway. The location is truly scenic. As you drive uphill leaving main road behind, a charming visual appears where the owners’ private residence and the restaurant are co located. The restaurant has two areas one indoors and the other outdoors overlooking the valley albeit under a covered enclosure to protect from windchill. As outdoors has more charm, it is a bit crammed to accommodate maximum seating. There is ample of choice in salads, soups, pizzas and pastas even for a set menu. They have two sets of appetisers as well. Soups were delectable though not piping hot. Salads were fresh but the quantity of feta and ricotta in respective dishes was quite meagre. The experience started going downhill after that. After soups and salads there was a long wait of more than 30 minutes for the next course. While we understood that it was a gourmet restaurant such pause once we started eating proved to be unwelcome. The waiters and staff were struggling to meet the demands and personnel from a couple of other tables were also seen to be irritated. After a long wait the dishes came out again. Starter sets were average to say the least. Chef needs to be trained in making falafel as the version we were served was nothing more than a dry harabhara kebab we get everywhere else. Again a long wait ensued after which the pizzas and pastas arrived. It was the real highlight as both gnocchi and spaghetti were top notch. Thin crust pizzas were also delicious but we had actually lost interest by then due to the delayed service. They have good spread of desserts too. Strangely the top crust of blueberry crème brûlée was mushy as it was pre-made whereas management was insisting that they want to give a fresh serving to every guest. In that case, they could have ensured to apply the top caramel coating fresh at least. You can have coffee at the end at espresso was really delightful. Actually helped to come out of sulking and brought memories of Europe trips. The place has definite appeal, there is thoughtfulness in the menu but the kind of delays we had, it spoiled the pleasure. Before making a final opinion, I am ready to visit again when à la carte menu is available to enjoy soups, pizzas and pastas. Hopefully service would be better too. Thank you for your candid review which is highly appreciated. Yes I agree on that day there were several delays and I truly apologise for that. I do hope you will visit again and we can make good the lacunae of the last meal.
I visited Cafe Diem as part of my trip to Conoor. Oh my, this is delicious delicious food, so good - please don't miss it at all. I loved the anti pasti, my blue cheese pizza, pineapple relish, amazing salads, and the saffron pasta. Should have tried the baked items. The owner was really sweet - she is really nice andrecommendeda outof the usual options to me, also helped pack so much food as I was so full. The staff service was slow though, I had to ask multiple times for my order and they forgot as well. Iwould totally recommend the place though for awesome food, and great views:) This was totally one of the highlights of my trip to Conoor! Food: 5 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Lunch

Our group went for lunch at this cafe on a weekend which proved to be a very bad experience.
Pros- Ambience was bit different and innovative. There is a small valley view which gives a good scenic view. Piace is clean and hygienic.
Cons-
1. Hospitality- Poorest ever. The lady who owns the cafe is very rude. The moment we reached, instead of welcoming, she started enquiring about table booking. She had a problem with us taking photographs on one of vacant tables. We were accommodated inside area which was very cramped. When outside tables got vacated and we wanted to shift out for a better view, she totally refused stating that tables are reserved. Though for our surprise, no one turned up to occupy them for next 1 hour till we left. Overall it appeared that we are not welcomed at all.
2. Space- Space is very cramped. Don't go by the posted photographs. There are two location for dining, one is outside and other inside. While booking a table, they din't even ask which location we would prefer.
3. Food- Food was a total waste, be it quality or quantity. There is a very limited option available. Pizza base was burnt which had to be changed. New Pizza served was smaller in size. Lasagne was more or less a boiled eggplant vegetable. All sophisticated named beverages at very high cost were just fresh juices. All quantities were so small that were good enough only for my 4 year old son. We almost had to order same item twice to satisfy our hunger.
4. Price- All items are pretty expensive. Services, ambience, quality and quantity of food are not at all at par with the price charged.
5. Paking- very limited space for parking.
Overall, not advisable at all. You would regret visiting here.
