We went to Bornali’s with a couple of friends last week. We were super thrilled as all of us are born and brought up Dibrugarh but are living currently out of assam so an assamese lunch is all we were excitingly looking forward to. We ordered 3 non-veg thaali and 2 “veg” thaali. Waiting for our lunch, it came and we couldn’t hold off our excitement. Only to realise half way through that they served me and my brother “maasor khaar” in a veg thaali. Mind you, we are pure vegetarians and we’ve never had anything non-veg in our entire life until that afternoon. I found a bone in my plate whilst taking a bite. Ofcourse I was flabbergasted. We called the staff and told them this had happened. No one from our group made a huge scene out of it especially my brother and I because we’ve grown up around friends eating non-veg but finding out you have been served non-veg in a veg thaali, wasn’t easy either. We still maintained our calm and narrated the incident to the staff. To our surprise, the staff acted like it wasn’t a big deal and without any genuine apology or regret of what happened, offered to replace the thaali (we were halfway done with that lunch). When asked how this happened, they tried to put the blame on us that we ordered non-veg dishes with veg thaali so it happened BUT they served fish dish with a “VEG THAALI”. Post wrapping up the lunch, we went to pay and wanted to address the situation with the manager I believe, so that we feel acknowledged of what happened. However what came next was a bigger disappointment. The manager was plain rude, cold, unprofessional and did not genuinely acknowledge what happened. Upon expressing what happened, she said “HOBO ARU, etia ki koribo paari” . I wasn’t expecting to undo what happened. I just needed genuine accountability of what went down. It was highly disappointing and all my friends and I felt extremely bad after leaving that place. As a restaurant owner, it’s your responsibility to take care of what you’re feeding your customers, curate the bare minimum experience for them and if things go south, take pure ownership and responsibility and accountability of the situation. I hope this review reaches the owner of the place and I get some sort of acknowledgment atleast now. Thank you for your honest review ma’am . We are really sorry for what you have faced. We will surely keep in our mind that this mistake doesn’t repeat. It was weekend special that we serve so they thought to serve that , as you all have also taken eggs curry and other non veg recipes. So there was a confusion and uncertainty about the whole situation. However, in noting our owner , we made sure that there’s strict action taken to solve this problem. However, this kind of issue never happened before, so we were unaware of this whole situation. We shall look into this matter. I hope you visit our place next time and we will be happy to serve you with all our homely hospitality.
