If there’s a café in Pune that effortlessly blends calm, character and craft, it’s bai mu dan. Tucked away in the charming by-lanes of Osho Lane, the location itself sets the tone-serene, slightly bohemian, and wonderfully atmospheric. It’s not uncommon to bump into Osho residents in their trademark maroon and white robes, which adds a unique cultural texture you simply won’t find elsewhere in the city. The café’s layout is thoughtfully done, white cushions that invite you to sink in, an open-to-air seating area that lets the breeze wander through, and lush plants and creepers framing the space beautifully. It feels intimate yet open, minimal yet warm, the kind of place where time slows down. The coffee deserves a special mention. Brewed from specially procured beans, every cup feels intentional and refined. The lungo, in particular, is refreshingly smooth — light, aromatic, and perfect for a slow morning or an unhurried afternoon. Food-wise, the variety is impressive and inclusive, with a particularly strong vegan selection that doesn’t feel like an afterthought. Whether you’re dropping in for breakfast, a mid-day pause, or a relaxed dinner, the menu fits seamlessly into any time of day. And finally — the people. The team at bai mu dan are truly special. Attentive without being intrusive, warm without being overwhelming. Their service is thoughtful, but what stands out even more is the genuine kindness behind it. It’s rare to find a place that feels curated with such heart. A café that nourishes more than just your appetite — bai mu dan is an experience. There is almost a permanent waiting list to enter during weekends. They have a clear sitting problem as it is always congested and mostly it is uncomfortable. They waiters move too much but seem to do to less while the people that actually make the food seem to be in distress. I had to sit on the bar that is not quite comfortable. It has ac too high and it is too loud. The service is reeeeeally slow. I ordered an avocado Bahn Mí sandwich. The ingredients are top notch but the sides were underwhelming and the portions is just barely enough, so if you are hungry probably won’t be fulfilling enough. I ordered a banana walnut date cake and it was very dry so decided to tell the waiter. The initial response was to heat it up and only because I look them with my unacceptable face they changed it for a carrot cake. However, non of them reach the bare minimum for a dessert, I found the carrot cake dry and without flavour. Given the size of the sandwich and the terrible quality of the desserts, the bad ambience and the slow service it is overly overpriced. Btw, they automatically charge the tip disregarding the experience. Tips should always be free willing. Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3 Meal type: Brunch Price per person: ₹1,000–1,200
